A thing I really like about the original MCOG serie is that there isn't really any major antagonist. Yes there are recurring villains (like Gaspard and Gomez,) yes the olmecs are the final boss, but you can't really point at a single person and blame the entire plot on them. In the sequels you could easily argue that everything wrong in the world could easily be fixed by taking out one redhead with a god complex. In the original serie the world is fucked due to circumstances well beyond your control and there is no way to instantly fix this. The villain is the spaniards and the colonizers. The villain is the sheer greed of the Olmecs willing to do anything for more life. The villain is the the Muan's and the Atlantean's stubborness leading them to destroying each other completely. The villain is the world itself that allows for unspeakable cruelty without a care for the innocents caugh in-between who are robbed of the simple right of having a home and knowing their own roots. It's a theme that just grabs me by the throat man.
