Astolfo saying “people can be good or bad but with a little incentive they could be good and that’s why I love them” summarizes their entire role in Apocrypha. Sieg could have fucked off without looking back, but he remembered Astolfo saving them, and decided to save the homunculi as he was saved. Siegfried could have left Sieg to die, but Astolfo called him out on how unheroic he was, and so he decided to stand by his beliefs. Gordes could have stayed a scummy magus but Astolfo’s callout forced him to face his own mistakes and grow past them. Mordred could kept their emotions under five layers of rage but Astolfo poked right at the weak point to set them free. Astolfo as a heroic spirit is quite weak they can't shatter mountains or split the earth in half, but their impact on the world around them is still tremondious.
