I don't normally start my posts with trigger warnings, but I know a lot of people consider incest as something somehow worse than gore or cannibalism, so hey warning that I'm going to talk about The Coffin of Andy and Leyley, aka incest simulator 2024.

Anyways. Going online I was very surprised to see that a lot of people boil down Andrew & Ashley's relationship as "abuser and victim who has done nothing wrong," which is fucking bewildering to me because boy is Andrew also his fair share of fucked up. But he hide it a bit better than Ashley, so I guess it's up to me to tell the world how many things wrong there are with this boy.

Let's start with the basics: Andrew has about as much of a moral compass as Ashley does. Whenever she brings up the idea of killing or eating someone, his first reaction is but what if we get caught? You might not pick it up initially, or maybe you'll think he's framing it this way because Ashley won't listen to the "it's immoral" argument. But when you explore Andrew's nightmare, he outright tells you that he doesn't give a shit about killing people. He cares about the girl from room 302 because that murder could be traced back to them. He cares about the warden because he always eyed at Ashley weirdly, and he wishes he could have killed him slower. Like this is all actual text in his dream if you interact with the corpses this guy doesn't care. He only cares about consequences, and he cares so badly about these consequences because he knows Ashley won't.

But what are these consequences he's so afraid of, you ask? What's the one thing he fears above all? To go to jail? To die?

No. Think back to when they found Nina's corpse. His first reaction wasn't worry for Nina. It was "if we get caught, they will take you away from me."

Andrew is as dependant on Ashley as Ashley is dependant on Andrew. Yes, she blackmails him to do her bidding, but his frustration has nothing to do with being forced to do something he doesn't want to; he's frustrated because it's exhausting to love someone who doesn't believe that you love them. He would give his sister the world if he could, but he knows that still wouldn't be enough to convince her that he genuinely loves her- because he's 100% genuine when he says he loves her rn and it still isn't enough. Ashley cannot comprehend anyone willingly staying with her unless she controls them, because historically her friends and parents have always deserted her when she proved to be "too much." But Andrew would stay with her even without that leash. He'd be MORE willing to stay without that leash, even- as proved by the fact that the incest route is only unlockable if Ashley lets go of some of her control over Andrew.

Speaking of. I've seen people argue that the incest only comes up in one specific route, and thus that calling the game "full of incest" is a lie. I understand the argument, because I think people who dunk on a game they haven't played just because it features upsetting themes regardless of context are the most annoying people on earth. That being said, I will personally disagree; to understand Andrew it is vital that you understand that this guy wants to fuck his sister so bad it makes him stupid. "Would you tie your hair up for me?" who the fuck is out there asking their girlfriend to style her hair like their sister. He's extremely averse to the idea of Ashley getting laid with anyone else. He reacts to incest accusation with embarrassment rather than disgust. He has a god damn cg about touching his sister's ass. Ashley wants to keep her brother around no matter what, but Andrew is the one who is actually incestuous out of the two.

TL;DR: Andrew isn't an uwu victim who did nothing wrong. He is also really fucking awful in his own way. The major difference between Andrew and Ashley is that Andrew understands the concepts of "consequences" and "social acceptability" and "generally it's advantageous to not have all of society hating you." Don't think for a second that Andrew is normal there are also many many things wrong with him.
