While my trade is mostly books and short stories, I've recently gotten really into making zines. I've made them on a bunch of different topics, but right now I want to talk about the zines I've made as an excuse to gush about a trope or a topic that was dear to my heart :3c
Onward, Truck-Kun is a zine about isekai tropes because, as I hope you've gathered from this blog, I really fucking like isekais. Unfortunately, when I say "isekais," people usually picture "Sword Art Online" (which is not an isekai. For the record.) I can hardly blame people, because a lot of modern isekais do follow the structure of "power fantasy for gamers with a hot girl harem," but that concept can and has been so much more.
Cannibalism is Hip is a zine about Cannibalism as a narrative device. For some reason, people keep pegging me as a romantic cannibalism enjoyer. I'm not. I don't even like cannibalism that much in itself. What I do like are the things cannibalism can represent in fiction- be it romance, despair, dehumanisation, and sooo much more.
Loop me up, Scottie! is a zine about time loops. I feel like a lot of people reduce time loops to "what if you had infinite tries to get your good ending," which is fair and valid, but also extremely reductive compared to what that concept can bring to the table.
And finally, Opinion Tycoon is me going off about management games for sixteen pages. As you guys hopefully know by now, it's my favorite genre of games, so I have a LOT of opinions on what I consider important in these games, complete with exemples and personal recommendatiosn.
These are either free or dirt-cheap, so if you ever want to see me talk about more general stuff instead of sticking to fandom analysis, give them a try!
